Hawaiian Silky Oak

Silky Oak is not a true oak. It is a tree that originated in Australia and was brought to Hawaii. Something about the climate and volcanic soil causes the Silky Oak grown in Hawaii to have different coloring and a bolder metallic luster. When cut quarter-sawn it shows an unusual snakeskin pattern of flecks and rays.
