Stabilized Old Growth Redwood from California. Beautiful color with great figure and a very flashy, metallic luster. Very chatoyant with figure that changes color and moves around as the light hits the surface from different angles. I cut this block from a redwood coffee table that was made in the early 1980s. The wood for the table was cut from an ancient Redwood stump that was left over from logging in the early 1900s. This is some of the "Good Stuff". When it was stabilized, this wood had an excellent weight gain and better hardness than usual with redwood. These photos were taken outdoors in direct sunlight. The wood will look a bit darker indoors or in indirect lighting.
Professionally stabilized by K&G Stabilizing. Their chemical stabilizing process fully impregnates the wood with a chemical solution that is then cured into a solid. This process makes the wood harder and more durable than it was prior to stabilizing.
