Product Description
Dimensions: 12&1/8" long x 3&1/8" wide x 3/8" thick . 2 pieces this size
Natural Redwood from Northern California. Rich orange coloring with a strong metallic luster that will move around as light hits the surface from different angles. This is from an ancient Old Growth Redwood stump that was left over from logging in the early 1900s. The grain patterns and figure will stand out and become much more defined when the wood is sanded finer and finished. My favorite finish for redwood like this is to first apply a couple coats of (Watco brand) Danish Oil followed by (Deft brand) Aerosol Lacquer.
These 2 pieces were produced by splitting a single piece to create 2 matching pieces which were drum sanded to give equal thickness. These were cut with saya (wooden scabbard for kitchen knives) making in mind but they also work great for box making, musical instruments and a variety of other woodworking projects.
This is untreated wood. It has not been stabilized (chemically impregnated). These pieces have been sprayed with a light coat of aerosol lacquer to give a bit of protection until you begin your project. It sands away easily without clogging your sandpaper.
